My late Mother- in- law died in November last year and left a debt of �1600 to Kay's catalogue.?

I phoned Kay's to let them know she had died,they passed me to their bereavement department that later transpired to be a debt collection company.As executor of her estate do i have to settle this debt as the beneficiaries have no contract with Kay's.
